Should teachers get paid more?

Should teachers get paid more? Yes, yes, yes! Ask any teacher if they receive the salary they deserve and they will tell you no. Teachers go to school and get at least a four-year education and make (in the state of West Virginia) about 30 thousand dollars a year. When you tell someone that, their like what? Are you serious? Why become a teacher then? For me, teaching isn't all about the money, although I would like to make a much larger salary. I love being around kids, any kids. Kids are awesome. They make you laugh and cry and your day would surely not be the same if you were doing anything else but teaching. Teachers are given this amazing opportunity to make a difference in a child's future. You decide what they learn. You decide if they can spell or if they can read or if they can add 2+2. That's why I teach, not to mention the summers off. :) This is what I always tell people when were talking about how much money were going to make whenever we do finally graduate from college. I don't care about the money, I just want to wake up every morning and know that I will enjoy my day. I would probably teach if they only made 20 thousand a year just because I can't see myself working any other job. Not to mention, it's a great job to have if you have a family or want a family. My mom is a teacher and she always had time for me and my sister and she was always there for everything. I want that for my kids too. I'll leave you with this last thought: Doctors make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, a whole lot more than teacher do right? Who do you think taught them to do what they do?

I agree with you 100%! You have to teach because you love it, not because you want to be rich. Teachers have alot of responsibilty to get payed some of the lowest salary for a educated field. That is completly crazy. Teachers are childrens life line to education. They deserve more.

I've been told that I'm crazy for becoming a teacher. I get the whole,"you know you're not gonna make a lot of money!" I tell them that I know I'm not going to be rich, but that's not the important thing. I agree with you 100%! It would be great to make more money, but the satisfaction I get from making an impact on a child's life would be well worth it.

As someone going into education I strongly think we should get paid more...lol...we are teaching the youth of our nation so why are our services valued so low?

First of all, I Love the last question and that is something I have thought about for a long time and I say to people who do not think teachers get paid enough, well who taught you to read and write or who taught that doctor or lawyer you needed, a teacher did! Like you I would like teachers to get paid more but that is not why I want to be one. I hear "well teachers don't make very much, why do you want to be one?" all the time and I simply say because it is what I feel I am meant to do and it is not about the money. Teachers are definately underappreciated and I think that is such a huge problem in our world. If everyone quit teaching all at once and refused to go back , what would happen? Our world would collapse that is what would happen. So should teachers get paid more? Definately

There is more to a job than just money. Summers off, a set schedule Monday-Friday, holidays off, and the joy of helping is worth a lot of money. However, I do feel that teachers should get paid much more. If they do not up the salary less and less students are going to pick the educational field.

I would also teach if they only made 20 thousand a year. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in grade school. I had some of the best teachers in grade school and I just loved what they did. I do wish that teachers made more money, but if they don't get a raise in the near future, I am not going to switch fields. I love the idea of getting to teach children and have a part in the shaping of their lives.

I understand what you are saying, I think that teachers don't make enough money. I don't think anyone that wants to become a teacher is in it for the money becuase the money is awful! So you have to have the love for it and want to wake up and do it everyday.

I do agree with you..but the people that say being a teacher is a reward in itself is crazy. Education is something that I am very passionate about; however, I have told myself time and time again the pay is not worth the time and energy you put into your job. People do not realize how much work is involved in this profession. I have grown up with my mother being a teacher, superintendent, and a principal and believe me it is no cake walk. Even so, I will continue to pursue my degree.

I agree. We need more money! We deserve to make just as much if not more than any politician on the planet. Teachers are that important to the future. In the famous lyrics of a band that doesn't exist. (The Beets)

"I need more allowence! Yo Da Lay Ee Ooh!"

Give us the money!

I agree. Teachers in today's society go through hell with some students, but they don't give up on them if they are dedicated to what they do. They teach kids even if they don't want to learn. They struggle everyday in the classroom and I believe have a very stressful job. You have to love the profession to want to be a part of it, and on that fact, I believe teachers should make WAY more then what they do now.

Yes I do. I answered a blog pertaining to this earlier and got all fired up. So I am going to try and retain myself. I believe they should, definitely because I am going to be one. Great post!

I do believe that teachers deserve a lot more money than they get…they have a hard job. I love kids but it’s still hard to run after them all day non stop. They really do need a serious salary increase, I felt like that before I decided to become a teacher.

I agree WV teachers definitely need a much larger salary for all they are responbile for. They don't just teach kids they babysit, counsel, and care for the students.

I love the last question you asked..I agree with you and I think that teachers should get paid more but that is not the reason I want to be a teacher. I don't think anyone is in this field for the money because you have to love being a teacher to do it every day.

Teachers definitely are under paid. The profession is solely a rewarding career. The eyes of a child who lights up whenever they actually "got it". Is totally worth it all. This is why money doesn't matter. You will never get rich being a teacher. The love for children out ways the rate of pay. Teachers totally deserve more pay, but like I said the reward is not in the money. Molding and shaping a child's life has many lasting rewards.

I think everyone would agree that teachers do need more pay, but teaching is a lot more that just dollars and cents. It's the love of children and wanting to make a difference in their life. As a teacher you will make a lifetime of memories with the students that you teach.

Teachers do need to get paid more, the salaries that are out there now are just awful. And being a teacher is just as important as nurse or any other profession and the pay should show it.

YES! Teachers should definitely get paid more. Teachers are one of the most important people in one's life. Think back about how many teacher's touched your life through out school. They work hard and are underpaid.

I do think that teachers are underpaid. They have a very important job and they deserve more than what they get. Although, it is not all about the money. If you love what you are doing then you will be happy no matter what.

I think teachers deserve more money because they work very hard and play a very important role in our world. I am like you and obviously are going to teach no matter what. I think this is what I am meant to do, but I could always use more money.

I totally agree with you how can govenment justify the numbers. They want to pay far less and then wonder why they cant get enough teachers. This is why teachers go accross state lines to teach.
